This is treatment consists of an application of chemical substance known as RIVOFLABIN combined with Ultraviolet exposure.
This modern treatment was developed in Germany and the idea is to increase Corneal Rigidity and make it more resistant against the natural deformity of the keratoconus.
It can be used against early keratoconus in order to stop evolution and progress.
It can also be used alter corneal rings, to add rigidity and resistance to the keratoconic Cornea.
It can also be used in Patients that had previous LASIK in the past and for some reasons the have developed post LASIK ectasia. This means that due to LASIK in the past, this patients have suffered Strong and even worst regresion of their visual problem. For some reason their Corneas has become weak and a deformity has been progressive. The Cross Linking will increase rigidity and strength and stop deterioration.
Cross linking treatment can be done, depending on the problem, from 3 minutes (Accelerated Cross Linking) to 30 minutes and recovery in less than 24 hours.
